Amer Fort, Amber Palace, Jaipur, Rajasthan, Incredible India
Elephant are the workhorses of the Indian tourist industry. As a young boy displaced miles from home in Jamaica, my new school mates asked me if I went to school in India on an elephant. To humor them, I nodded and kept the lie going. Decades later in Jaipur as I walked around the Amer palace, I noticed this mahut taking a break from giving tourists a ride, and in his eyes and in the elephant's I saw the "I don't care, I am taking a break and am not going to give you a ride" look. Money is not everything.
